Mayor's Youth Showcase

Logo
This year, we are presenting the second annual Mayor's Youth Showcase of Achievement Award Program on Tuesday, May 8 at the Mahaffey Theater. This great program is produced by our teens, for our teens, to recognize achievement and bring to attention to some of the great talent and leadership in our city and county's youth.

Presented by TASCO, the city's award-winning teen organization, with generous support from floridacentral Credit Union and Students Working Against Tobacco, this program offers more than $20,000 in savings accounts, along with trophies and certificates, to teens who excel.

This year we had more than 300 nominations in 10 categories - including academics, scholar athletes, citizenship/leadership, fine arts, literary arts, performing arts, media arts, science/technology, vocational/business enterprise, and overcoming adversity. From the nominations, 66 awards will be presented.

Not only is this event inspiring, but it is extremely entertaining, and I encourage you to attend. Our program will be hosted by Elizabeth Fechtel, a young lady from Leesburg, Florida who was crowned Miss Florida Outstanding Teen (the teen component to Miss America) on stage at the Mahaffey last July. A few weeks later, she won the national title and is Miss America's Outstanding Teen. In addition to Elizabeth, you will see 14 middle and high school teens demonstrate their talent. It's a great show!

Please join us Tuesday, May 8 at the Mahaffey Theater, 7 to 9:30 p.m., open to the public, $5.
